Lincoln Center gets greener.

Today I was lucky enough to visit Lincoln Center, which is undergoing some really beautiful renovations designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro (a personal favorite) in collaboration with FXFOWLE. I was excited from the moment I first saw the renderings, which promised more nature and included a freestanding public green on the top of a new “destination restaurant.” I was even more excited to see that the real thing is looking more and more like those renderings every day. Knowing the successes of DS+R’s design for the High Line, I’m sure that this green space will also become a favorite outdoor retreat for many.

May 23′s daily design idea next time you need inspiration for a public space, try looking up. A restaurant’s roof and some elevated train tracks have recently become the sites for two of Manhattan’s best public spaces.
